Your Guide to IIM Lucknow MBA Admissions via CAT

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university from any discipline with a minimum of 50% 

marks (aggregate) for MBA program.

Appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT) and secure a high score (cut-offs vary each year)

Work experience is not mandatory, but may strengthen your application.

CAT Cutoff and Selection Process:

Candidates have to give the CAT exam to get admission in the MBA program.

The CAT is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for admission to their MBA programs. The registration process for CAT typically begins in the months of July-August. CAT sectional cut-off and overall percentile for each category 2023-

These qualifying cut offs are CAT percentile required to be eligible for WAT-PI  round of IIM Lucknow admissions. Candidates must note that the final CAT cut offs could be higher.

Shortlisted candidates are called for WAT ( Writing Assessment Test) and PI. WAT assesses your writing and communication skills, while PI is an in-depth evaluation of your motivation, leadership potential, and suitability for the program.

The final consolidated admission score is formed by the following weightages:

1 CAT Score – 35

2 AWT ( Academic Writing Test) – 10

3 Personal Interview – 40

4 Work Experience  and Diversity Factor- 10

5 Academic Scores (10th, 12th, Graduation etc.)-  10

IIM L Admissions – Application Process

  • IIM Lucknow places significant weightage on the CAT score. Even if your academic record in 10th and 12th standards isn’t exceptional, a stellar CAT performance can significantly enhance your chances of getting shortlisted.
  • Don’t underestimate the Writing Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). These stages hold a substantial weightage (around 44%) in the final selection process.
  • Refine your writing and communication skills to excel in the WAT. Express yourself clearly, concisely, and logically in the written test.
  • Prepare diligently for the PI. Research IIM Lucknow, showcase your motivation for pursuing an MBA, highlight your leadership potential, and demonstrate how you fit into the program.
  •  While not mandatory, relevant work experience (ideally 2-3 years) can strengthen your application by showcasing your professional skills and accomplishments.
  • Women candidates receive some weightage in the initial shortlisting process. This aims to promote gender diversity in the program. However, there are no additional gender-based benefits in the later stages of selection.

 

Placements 

IIM Lucknow recorded 100% placements in 2024. The highest international and domestic package offered during IIM Lucknow placements 2024 for the PGP programmes stood at INR 1.23 crore per annum and INR 65 LPA, respectively. Further, the average and median package offered during IIM Lucknow placements 2024 stood at INR 30 LPA and INR 27 LPA, respectively. A total of 634 offers were made to 576 students during IIM Lucknow placements 2024.

IIM Lucknow’s reputation for academic rigor, diverse specializations, and strong placements make it a top contender for MBA aspirants. However, securing admission requires a strong academic profile, a high CAT score, and a commendable performance in the WAT & PI stages.
